The vacuum cleaner comes with four power settings, a variety of brushes and attachments, and an intuitive app which lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like for each room.
You could, for instance request the robot to clean the kitchen and the living room thoroughly, but leave the bedroom in its own space. It's not like the model from last year it comes with a double agitator in its mopping pad which significantly enhances its carpet cleaning abilities. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction power which allows it to remove smaller hairs as well as other debris other robotic cleaners could miss.
The Roborock model, just like the other two models I tested, has infrared and reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology that helps it avoid obstacles such as walls, furniture and other obstacles. However, the S8 Pro Ultra takes things one step further by having a dual camera that can recognize objects and determine whether they are a wall or another surface. It will then automatically alter its direction and clean them without missing a beat.
It's the most expensive model I've tested, but it also has the most features. Its sleek, angular design is eye catching and comes with three physical buttons. The power button, which also resumes the cleaning mop function, a button for cleaning that doubles up as a child-lock and a home-button that can send the robot to its dock. The hinged lid can be lifted to reveal a 350ml dust bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank is automatically filled and the bin fills up automatically.
The only issue I encountered with this model was that the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't movable. Although you can change the mopping cloth (if it's required), it's a pain to remove the mount to wash manually. I've noticed that any plush carpet that the robot passes will come into contact with the Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, and could cause abrasions.
The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart features which include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can configure and manage these using the Roborock app which is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app allows you to schedule cleanings and monitor battery life. You'll need to jump through a few steps to enable voice control on this model. It's a shame, considering how well-performing it is otherwise.
3. Dreame X40
The Dreame X40 robot vacuum and mop is a market leader with cutting-edge features, high suction power and advanced mowing abilities. Its innovative design allows for customized and efficient cleaning while reducing time.
The X40 is the first robot vacuum cleaner to deliver 12,000 Pascals of cleaning power, which makes it one of the top options available. This powerful vacuum can clean up pet hair, crumbs and other dry debris. It has a mop of top quality that cleans hard floors without the use of pads. Its mops have a new feature called Smart DuoScrub that uses two high-speed mops to scrub floors more thoroughly than the traditional method, and it has an impressive suction power of 7,000Pa. This is significantly higher than the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni and can remove pet hair and small dirt particles in addition to removing spills and wet spots.
The mops are cleaned and dried in the base station every time they are used. This is a fantastic feature since it prevents the growth of odours and mould in the storage area, and it also makes mop systems more efficient. This is an option we haven't seen in other robot mop and vacuum models. It could be a great method to keep your home clean longer.
